Cobh Connect Route 211: Cobh to Little Island via Carrigtwohill

This is a map and route information for the Route 211 bus, which travels from  Cobh to Little Island via Carrigtwohill, and return.

This service will run from Wednesday 24 August, 2022.

Initially a Monday - Friday service, with 4 buses in each direction.

"Bus connects" bus-corridors proposal for Cork city

 The National Transport Authority are working on a project to improve public transport services in the metropolitan areas around most Irish cities.

For Cork city, they have a plan to build "Sustainable Transport Corridors" which will have continuous bus priority and cycle tracks along 12 key radial bus corridors.

A proposed map of these routes was released for consultation in June 2022.  More about this idea, and the proposed bus-corridors is available here.

Note that these are not bus-routes.  Instead, they are "bus and bicycle corridors", which can be used by buses.  Actual bus routes may go further than these corridors - and some bus-route may even use more than one corridor.

Also, these are currently only proposals or suggestions.  Any bus-route changes will not happen until 2023 at the earliest.

More daily buses from Cork-aipport to Galway via Limerick

Irish Citylink have announced that they will run three more services in each direction on their  Cork/ Cork Airport to Limerick and Galway service, effective from Friday 8 April 2022.

This is a 7-days per week service.  The new buses will leave from:

• Cork Airport at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:45pm
• Galway at 10:30am, 1:30pm and 4:30pm

with stops in Cork city, Limerick and ATU (GMIT).

From the same day, all Citylink Galway / Cork services will not stop at Raheen in Limerick.   The only stop in Limerick will be in Henry Street, near the Garda Station.

New bus service: 229 from Bantry to Cork city

West Cork Connect have announced a new bus service between Bantry and Cork City, starting from Monday 13 September 2021.   It will be known as route 229.

This service has been planned for some time, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 restrictions.   It will be starting on a limited basis now, and is likely to be extended from January 2022.

Buses will run seven days a week, initially with two buses in each direction, each day.  The exact times differ between weekdays and weekends. 

Bus stops are in Bantry (Hotel and Industrial estate), Durras Cross, Coolmane, Aughaville, Drimoleague, Dunmanway (Bantry Rd, opposite Aldi, and Chapel St), Ballineen, Enniskeane, Murragh, Bandon, Innishannon, Wilton / CUH, Western Rd, Grande Parade and St Patricks' Quay in Cork city.

Expressway X8 replaced by Bus Eireann 245X (Cork / Dublin)

The National Transport Authority (NTA) and Bus Éireann have has announced that from Sunday 5 September 2021:

• Route X8 (Cork to Dublin City-centre) is cancelled
• Route, 245X will run 4 times a day (Mon-Sun) between Cork and Dublin, with stops in Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Cahir, Cashel and Newlands Cross. It will have the same timetable and stops as the previous route x8, but Bus Éireann will receive a subsidy for running the service.

Important differences between the X8 and 245X services:

• Buses will have TFI/Bus Éireann colours / logos, instead of the Expressway logos.
• Some fares between Dublin and Cork will increase by €1
• Leap cards can be used to buy tickets, and a 30% discount will be applied when they are. 
• Tickets can be purchased on Bus Éireann's website, but seats cannot be reserved.

This is a follow-up to the change in January 2021, when the X8 service stopped travelling to Dublin airport.

The current route 245 (Cork to Clonmel) bus is not affected by this change.

GoBus changes in Dublin / Cork timetable

Gobus have announced changes to their route 707 - Cork / Dublin city / Dublin airport service, effective from Monday 24 May 2021.

The following buses are changed from seven-days per week to Friday-and-Sunday-only:

• 9:30am from Cork to Dublin City then Airport  
• 5pm from Dublin Airport to the city and then to Cork .

Despite these cancellations, Gobus are still offering eight departures a day between Cork and Dublin, with times spread throughout the day, including times which allow for for early-morning check-ins.

Bus Éireann Expressway changes - May 2021

Bus Éireann have announced cancellations to a number of Expressway services, from Saturday 15 May 2021. 

Cork services that are affected are on Route 51 (Galway / Shannon / Limerick / Cork):

• The 6:05pm, 7:05pm and 8:05pm buses from Galway are cancelled
• The 5:05pm bus from Galway only travels to Limerick
• The 6:25pm bus from Cork is cancelled
• The 3:25 and 5:25 buses from Cork only travel to Limerick

Cork to Dublin x8 bus route reduced

Bus Éireann have advised that from Saturday 30 January 2021, Expressway route X8 (Cork / Dublin) will no longer travel to or from Dublin Airport: instead the service will end at Búsarus (Dublin Bus Station).

Christmas 2020 Park and Ride service

Bus Éireann will run a temporary Park and Ride service between County Hall in Carrigrohane Rd and Sheares Street in the lead-up to Christmas 2020.

Dates

It will run each weekend between Saturday December 5 and Sunday 20 December 2020 inclusive.

Times

The first bus will leave County Hall at 9.30am, ant the last bus at 8.15pm, with a bus every 15 minutes.

Return buses will start at 0.45am and run 15 minutes until the last bus at 8:30pm.
On Sunday, 20th December, the last buses will leave County Hall 6:15pm, and Sheares Street at 6:30pm

Fares

Adult Day Return - €3.00
Child Day Return - €1.50
Family Return - 2 adults and up to 3 children under 16 - €5.00

 

The Black Ash Park and Ride (entrance off Kinsale Rd) continues to operate as normal.

New bus between west Cork and Cork city

A new bus service between west Cork (Skibbereen) and Cork City (St Patrick's Quay) will operate from 24 February 2020.

Bus company

The service is called West Cork Connect, and is run by Skibbereen-based Dave Long Coach Travel.

Times

This is a seven days a week service, and initially has three buses per day on weekdays, and two per day at weekends.    Total journey time is 1:40  (one hour and 40 minutes).

The company also plans to offer late-night buses for concerts and special events.

Fares

The company aims to offer fares that are 40% cheaper than Bus Éireann.

Tickets can be purchased on the bus (cash, debit and credit cards are accepted), and Free Travel passes are accepted.

On-line booking is now available on their website, and they promise that seats are guaranteed when booked on-line.

Bus fare reductions on Route 40 between Cork and Waterford February 19, 2020

Bus Eireann have announced changes (reductions) in bus fares on Expressway Route 40 buses.

These new fares apply from Wednesday 19 February, 2020.

The new fares are for travel to Waterford and Cork from Midleton, Castlemartyr, Killeagh, Youghal, Grange, Dungarvan, Leamybrien, Kilmacthomas,  and Kilmeaden - and between Waterford and Cork.

They only apply to trips on Route 40 buses:   the existing fares apply to journeys between these places on other buses (eg routes 240, 241, 260, 261 & 362).

People who are buying a ticket for these journeys will have to say which bus (route 40 or another route) they are using, and can only travel on the route they chose.    The only exception is for TaxSaver and multi-stop tickets which do not specify the route.
